Soccer Soccer players need a combination of aerobic and anaerobic fitness due to the nature of the game and the fact that there is continuous movement with lots of short bursts of intense activity. You can have all the soccer skills in the woirld, but having fitness can only make a good player better.

Speed is an essential component of any sport. For soccer we see speed as:
  • the ability to accelerate quickly
  • a high maximum speed
  • the ability to react quickly to situations
  • being able twist, turn and change direction quickly
  • the ability to produce bursts of fast running throughout the game
  • the ability to read a situation and anticipate
  • the ability to move the ball and use the ball at speed
